Chambray and lace-up tops are two of my favorite spring/summer trends this year. When I was invited to local Denver designer Never A Wallflower‘s trunk show and I saw this design, I knew I had to have one. The style is perfectly casual and relaxed and will fit in with the lazy summer days and outdoor events to come. This top is so effortless and comfortable. I paired it with my favorite distressed white ankle jeans and a neutral block heel. (Here’s another favorite lace-up block heel style I’ve had my eye on lately.)
After helping at my family’s ranch this past weekend I’m living for casual, easy looks like this to run errands, catch up on my to-do list, and go to quick meetings around town. It’s funny because nothing feels so refreshing and relaxing than to escape emails and the monotony of the day-to-day, yet nothing stresses me out quite so much as returning to an overflowing inbox, laundry piles, and a million to-dos. It’s almost like I need a few days to rest and catch up. You know the saying, “I need a vacation from my vacation!”
Do you have an outfit that’s easy to throw on and looks pulled together? What’s your go-to casual look? Any trends you’ve been loving lately? Also… I’d love to hear about any other Denver designers or your favorite local designer in your area.
Wow first of all these are wonderful pictures! I also love this casual spring look. It is so refreshing, especially the colors your chose to put together. The chambray top with the lace looks fabulous with your white jeans. I love white this time of the year and I think you pulled it off very well. Also great choice in shoes. Love this look! http://www.musebymalu.com
Ever since I got my first pair of mirrored aviators, I’ve been wearing them with so many outfits. Mirrored lenses give a hint of edge and coolness to any outfit… Even just a simple tee and jeans. And it’s fun to bring a little color into your looks with some of the bright, colorful mirrored lenses.
Perfect Pairings:
leather jacket worn off the shoulders with a white tee tucked into distressed denim
solid color bikini with a colorful, printed pareo and beach espadrille sandals
off-the-shoulder top worn with white denim and heels (example here)
I wanted to give you a selection of affordable sunglasses to choose from, since this is a bit of a trend and you guys know I only splurge on classic pieces that will stand the test of time. I absolutely love this trend, but if I’m done wearing my mirrored sunnies next summer, I’ll feel much better about it if they’re under $50. Plus, if you’re like me, summer can be a bit dangerous on sunnies… Boating, traveling, picnics in the park… I’ve lost so many sunglasses that way!
I apologize for being a bit MIA on social media lately. This weekend I had the second part of my closet install, got caught in a wild Wyoming hail storm, and came to my parents’ ranch to work cattle and chat with visiting friends and family for Mother’s Day. We really love the peace and quiet the ranch provides and working with animals is a huge plus too! But I do miss when I can’t chat and share with you guys as easily as I normally do. I’ll be back to a normal schedule (and normal cell reception!) this week.
I love the look of denim overalls, but I’ve always had such difficulty finding a pair that flatter and don’t look sloppy. When I saw these, I knew they would end my overalls search.
One of my features of this denim jumpsuit is the flattering cut-out and strap across the back that add detail and allow you to wear a bra. The waist is pulled in and fitted to give a feminine shape. And the wide legs slim and are the perfect pairing with this season’s block heel. I’ve also worn this with flats in California… See the photo on my Instagram here.
Wishing you a happy, safe weekend. And Happy Mother’s Day to all you incredible mamas out there… You all are such an inspiration to me.
I had been wanting these shoes for a while now. I would look at them in each season’s colors, add them to my cart, and then ultimately wait again. Do any of you do that? Well, at #rStheCon I finally decided to reward myself and get the shoes. I was so excited to wear them out that night for the all-white LIKEtoKNOW:it Finale Party as a pop of color to my white dress.
A blogger friend and I had dinner at Americano in The Joule (you must try their four mushroom pizza if you go) and of course we gushed about our purchases we made that afternoon. Then we hopped on the shuttle to the party at Dallas’s Winspear Opera House.
The patio around the opera house was glowing with lighting and people all in white were gathered around the LIKEtoKNOW:it photo booth and lounge areas throughout. Later, the DJ’s music changed slightly and we were asked to walk across the grass to a shallow pool of water in front of the DJ booth. Slight panic set in….
Finally I had these brand new shoes I had been drooling over for years and was so thrilled to purchase them for myself and was at this amazing party… But it had been raining that day and the ground still felt wet, not to mention there was a small pool of water in front of us. Here was that moment when you look stuffy if you don’t join in the fun, but a true shoe lover will probably spend the next day crying over her ruined shoes if she does trek across the wet/muddy grass. And as if I need to spell out my shoe addiction, I’m the girl who subsisted on clementines and cereal some weeks so I could spend the money I earned working on handbags and shoes. Priorities, I know.
I decided to say a quick prayer and walk across the grass. (My brilliant friend, unbeknownst to us, made a beeline for the DJ booth to save her suede heels!) We made it to the pool and I stood on the strip of cement surrounding the pool to protect my heels from sinking into the grass.
Then the stomp dancers came out. They were all decked out in white clothes and light-up shoes and I have to say, the minute they started dancing I got so into it I forgot all about my shoes. The DJ played the best mix of hip-hop songs and the dancers slid and spun through the shallow pool of water sending water cascading into the air, water droplets catching the glowing lights from around the patio. The way they moved made me want to kick off my heels and dance in the water with them, they were so talented. If you follow me on Snapchat and saw my snaps, you know!
As the dancers walked off the shallow pool, the water began to drain and a damp cement floor is all that remained. The entire party ran out to dance on the new, slightly wet dance floor. (I know what you’re thinking… This whole situation is like a death trap for suede shoes.) After all that incredible music and dancing, I had to go out to dance with everyone. I just barely lifted my feet so I wouldn’t kick up any water on them.
After we got back to the patio, we could see the water line about an inch up all the way around my shoes. My friends tried to be nice and encouraging, telling me it would probably disappear but I could see the slight horror in their eyes because they knew it wouldn’t… And being bloggers, they knew what the shoes were. So we danced (on the patio this time), took photos in the photo booth, noshed on the tiny tacos waitstaff were passing around, and enjoyed our last night with all these incredible people.
As we stepped off the shuttle back into the hotel, one of my friends grabbed my arm… “Look at your shoes!” she said, pointing down at them. I looked and lo and behold, they were perfect in all their bright orange goodness. I couldn’t believe it. And… Like only the most dedicated shoe lovers would do, about six of us stopped to stare in amazement. We decided to go somewhere to chat into the wee hours before our flights left the next morning.
Moral of the story… Don’t let ruined shoes stop you from having fun and living in the moment. And find friends who will cheer with your new shoes perform magic tricks.
Hahaha!! Thanks, Maggie!! I’m glad I’m not the only one. I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw that wet/muddy grass!! Thank goodness they were okay… Must be some serious Scotchguard they come with. Have a great weekend, babe!! Xoxo B.
When I first tried this outfit on, I was hesitant… It’s a bit more sultry than I’m used to and I wasn’t sure how it would look on my body. You ladies know what I’m talking about… The please leave me in the dressing room because I don’t know if I can handle what I’m about to see in a three-way mirror kinda feeling.
But I stepped out and instead of feeling self-conscious I felt really feminine and fierce. I wanted to go out dancing or on a fun date with my husband. And what a perfect feeling to feel while wearing the outfit because I bought this for the all-white LIKEtoKNOW:it finale party at the rewardStyle Conference.
** I must not be the only one that feels this way, because the outfit is selling out like crazy. I’ve linked two different sites in the links under the photos and in the text below and between the two sites, they have almost every size right now. But if you’re interested, hurry because I don’t think these will stay around for long!
The outfit is definitely body-con but at the end of the day not a lot is exposed… Just an inch of stomach and if you’d prefer to avoid that you can pull the high-waist skirt or whatever you pair the crop with up a bit. I added my super-discounted favorite linen blazer of this season for a little extra coverage (also check out this one on sale until May 4th) and I think a leather jacket could be really cute as well. You can also see me wearing the linen blazer in my #rStheCon Day 1 Outfit post.
This top hugs, lifts, and supports… The front is lined and the back is just lace like the bottom of the skirt. It hits the body at the most flattering point, accentuating the smallest part of the waist. It runs true to size and is available in different sizes here and here.
The skirt hugs curves and has a lining that extends about midway down the thigh. The lace overlay is so beautiful and delicate but provides enough coverage to make the two-piece look work without seeming scandalous. The skirt is available in different sizes here and here. Slits on either side provide ease of movement and just a peek of whatever fabulous shoes you want to add. I wore these lace-up neutral block heels to elongate. There are only a few sizes left, so here is a similar style in case your size is sold out.
The day of the LIKEtoKNOW:it finale party, I was worried my outfit was a bit too casual and more cream-colored than the pure white looks everyone else was talking about wearing. (Leave it to me to stress myself out unnecessarily.) But the beauty of it all is that I ended up with a beautiful, pure white, off-shoulder dress… Available here and here. And I’m saving this lace combo for a night out in New York City this month. You may have seen me wearing the white dress on my Instagram at a museum event in California and you can also see it in my California Instagram Roundup post. I’ve been thinking about recreating and photographing the white dress look I wore for a blog post if you’re interested.
Tomorrow I’m posting a story about the shoes I got to wear with the white dress… It still makes me cringe to think about and I can’t wait to hear what you think or if you have ever been in a situation like that! Hope your week is off to a great start! I’m wishing you May weather and sunny skies.
I love this top!! It goes so well with the white jeans 🙂
